To read distance learning information pertaining to the entire Lower School as well as a statement from Mrs. Hollenbeck, please continue to read the Lower School Blog.
This page will serve as the landing page for all third grade parent information and additional learning resources. As always, if you have any questions please continue to use email as primary form of contact with Ms. Gray and Ms. Archer.
After learning quite a few things on Day 1, we created a Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions document to provide further clarification on a variety of topics for students and parents. We will continue to update this document as we go along.
8:00-8:30 Students will join Ms. Archer and Ms. Gray for a Zoom meeting every morning at 8 am. The purpose of this meeting is to start our day together with face-to-face contact, establish our goals, provide a routine for the students, and give students and parents an opportunity to ask questions. Instructions for installing Zoom are on the Lower School Blog. Please let us know if you need any help!
8:30-11:30 The morning hours will consist of a variety of asynchronous and synchronous learning activities for math and language arts following our morning meeting. The daily schedule (linked above) will specify whether or not the students will be online with the teachers (meeting, live discussions, video lessons, etc.) and if work must be completed during that time frame or can be completed at any time by 3 pm that day. Knowing that there are many other factors for parents to manage during this unprecedented time, we will try to provide a variety within each day of asynchronous and synchronous digital learning. During these morning hours, both teachers will be available online for live teaching, conferencing, answering student questions, and responding to discussion boards.
11:30-1:00 Lunch and teacher prep- During this time, teachers will hope to wrap up any unanswered student questions from the morning and begin taking a look at completed work. Our goal during this time is to be able to provide feedback for submitted work as we would in the classroom.
1:00-3:00 The afternoon hours will provide students with additional time to complete work and ask questions, but will also serve as the teacher prep time to wrap up the current day and get ready for the following day; therefore, only one teacher at a time will be available for students at a time during the following scheduled hours: 1:00-2:00 Ms. Archer online for questions, Ms. Gray prep 2:00-3:00 Ms. Gray online for questions, Ms. Archer prep
3:00-4:00 Expect to see the following day's lessons posted to the schedule during this hour. Ms. Gray and Ms. Archer will be meeting during this time. We will also still be participating in weekly faculty meetings on Wednesday afternoons.
Students and parents are welcome to still email the teachers past 4pm each day. The teachers will respond to these emails the following day during prep times, or during the morning hours when possible.
Communication Protocols Parents, please continue to email both teachers for any matter. This will help ensure that your email gets a timely response. If students have a question, they should start by emailing Ms. Archer and Ms. Gray from their ULS gmail account. If their question requires a deeper explanation, we will respond with a Zoom link to be able to talk in person. Both teachers will be available from 8:30 to 11:30 for questions and meetings. Please follow this protocol during advisory hours as well.
